Course Descriptions

2-HR COURSE

The 2-module online training course introduces the participant to the modern fluoroscopy system and its components. The learning objectives for this course include learning the process of x-ray production, a comparison of fluoroscopy imaging characteristics to traditional radiography and the functions and benefits of modern fluoroscopy. Participants will also be introduced to the protection of personnel including a background in x-ray interactions in matter, occupational radiation dose and regulations, and by defining radiation safety standards.

4-HR COURSE

The 4-module online training course includes all the material from the 2-hour fluoroscopy course and introduces the participant to a more detailed collimation and filtration discussion and patient protection. The participant will review further detail of the production of x-rays and what contributes to their energy and intensity characteristics, as well as how filtration can be used and the effects of filtration on the image and the dose to the patient. This course will also give more detail about the stochastic and non-stochastic effects of radiation, the impact of filtration and pulsed fluoroscopy, as well as peak skin dose calculations.

10-HR COURSE

The 10-module online training course is a comprehensive educational course to educate the participant on all aspects of fluoroscopy. This training will give details on x-ray production, the fluoroscopy system, personnel protection, patient protection, regulations, and radiation safety culture. Components of the x-ray tube and input parameters will be discussed in detail along with filtration, pulsed mode, and the ABC to describe the effect each of these will have on the image and patient dose. Radiation safety standards are discussed along with biological effects and regulatory occupational dose limits to keep all workers and patients safe. Also included, is a module about radiation safety culture in healthcare, why it is important, and how to help implement it. The original course includes Alaska state regulations. (For course participants in Oregon, check the Oregon 10-hour course selection which includes Oregon state regulations.)
